Grapevine, Texas - ca. 1908

In the early 1900s, Grapevine was sitting on the edge of change. Telephone service was revolutionizing communications for the community of 500 people…and electrical power and all its conveniences would follow in 1910. The wagon and team (on the left) which George L. Bushong brought to town would be replaced by automobiles and trucks. In 1910, Grapevine's first automobile - a Maxwell owned by young Nash Groover - made its way up Main Street which would also soon be paved. Grapevine was a center of commerce and entrepreneurship. C. J. Wall, owner of Wall Drug Store, saw an opportunity to promote his hometown by publishing a series of postcards which he sold in his drugstore. His efforts captured the spirit of Grapevine and froze a moment in time which we can enjoy today - nearly 100 years later. Grapevine's historic Main Street is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
