HERITAGE
Grapevine boasts a colorful and proud heritage that began in 1844 when settlers first moved to the prairie that earned its name from wild Mustang grapes that grew prominently in the area. In the 160-plus years since then, Grapevine has experienced tremendous growth – but its friendly, Texas-proud spirit is still evident. In Grapevine, more than 75 historic structures have been lovingly preserved. Fascinating walking tours allow visitors to see Grapevine’s past first-hand, including its thriving Main Street District.

Another area rich in history, the Historic Cotton Belt Railroad District, allows visitors the opportunity to step into a restored Cotton Belt Depot from 1901 that serves as the Grapevine Visitors Information Center and is home to the Grapevine Historical Museum. The Cotton Belt Railroad District also houses a restored 1888 Section Forman’s House, a fully operating blacksmith shop and one of Grapevine’s Historic homes – the Bragg House.Throughout the District, visitors can see artisans demonstrate their skills at a variety of crafts from glass blowing to bronze art.

For day-time, family fun, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad offers excursions led by a beautifully restored 1896 steam engine dubbed “Puffy.” The Grapevine Vintage Railroad takes passengers over 21 miles of track, from Historic Downtown Grapevine to Fort Worth’s Stockyards Station. A one-way ride is approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. For more, visit www.GVRR.com.

FESTIVALS
Grapevine celebrates several events throughout the year, with GrapeFest headlining the city’s broad festival line-up. The largest wine festival in the Southwestern United States, GrapeFest draws more than 250,000 people each September and is more than 20 years old. In the spring, Grapevine has celebrated its heritage and the beginning of summer with Main Street Days for more than two decades. For 15 years, Grapevine has celebrated its wine-making history and thriving wine industry with the New Vintage Wine Trail in April. This event includes the Jazz Wine Train, the Blessing of the Vines and New Release Wines, with shuttle rides to Grapevine’s winery/tasting rooms.
